What is the DAS Pass?
If you have a disability that may prohibit you from waiting in extended lines you MAY qualify for the Disney DAS pass. This pass is NOT for physical disabilities where a wheelchair or scooter can be used, but IS for conditions such as Crohn’s Disease, Severe Anxiety, Autism, and many others that impact your line waiting abilities. Either way, it doesn’t hurt to ask! Disney will NOT ask you for a doctor’s note, but will ask you why you can’t wait in line. This pass is valid for 60 days.
How do I get a DAS Pass?
There are 2 methods: For both methods, the person with the disability MUST be present.
In Person: There are now two different options to get the DAS pass. The first option is to go to Guest Services at any theme park when you arrive for your vacation. They will ask you a few questions and if approved they will take your picture and add your DAS pass to your My Disney Experience.
30 Days Prior: You can now register in advance by completing a LIVE video chat with a cast member between 30 days and 48 hours prior to your trip. (If your trip is within 48 hours you MUST choose the in-person method). This is available between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. ET. Tip: There is typically a LONG wait. I found it easiest to call in right at 7 a.m. 30 days prior to my trip! Click HERE to register.
HUGE TIP: I recommend the 30 days prior method 100%. It is worth the wait! If you choose this method you get 3 ADVANCED ride selections for each park day. This is good for up to 6 people in your party as long as the person WITH the DAS pass rides. Let me emphasize that the person with the DAS pass MUST ride! You get to choose any 3 rides (minus individual lightning lane rides) ahead of time (pending availability). This is a HUGE benefit! You can then use your DAS pass in ADDITION to those 3 rides to start your new wait time when you enter the park.
Let me explain this in detail. On a day at Magic Kingdom, I could have the following advance rides booked: Peter Pan at 11:00, Big Thunder Mountain at 12:00, and Pirate’s of the Caribbean at 1:00. Then when I walk into Magic Kingdom at 11:00 (right after scanning my band) the DAS option will pop up in the MDE App. I book Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (this is typically an individual lightning lane ride and is always super busy). I now wait whatever the current wait time is for that ride. Let’s pretend it’s 90 minutes. So now in addition to the 3 rides I booked in advance I can go on Mine Train anytime after 12:30. This is HUGE to be able to get on 4 rides in less than 3 hours!
If you go with the in-person method for the DAS pass you DO NOT get the 3 advanced ride selections. You will only be able to get 1 ride when you walk into the park. Once that is used you can book another ride.
What is Genie+?
This gets complicated folks, but once you get the hang of it all I promise it is so worth it! Especially when you have 4 screaming children! Genie+ can be added to your My Disney Experience after midnight on your park day. You MUST have a park ticket and reservation for EACH person. It costs $15 per person plus tax per day. You will then have access to book your rides starting at 7 am that day. You can book for all rides MINUS the individual lightning lane ride. I will list those later.
- I recommend setting everything up at 6:30 a.m. so that it is all set and paid for. Starting at 6:55 a.m. start hitting refresh refresh refresh. Refresh is your best friend! It may look like the ride and time you want are gone, but then you hit refresh a few times and it reappears!
- You can book your next ride 2 hours later OR after you use your first Genie+ pass. DAS rides and the Individual Lightning Lane rides as separate from this rule. I recommend setting a 2-hour timer on your phone.
- Most popular rides will go first so be sure to book strategically!
- If a ride sells out don’t give up, keep refreshing later in the day and it may pop up.
- You can book your next ride right after you scan your band for the ride. So get that phone handy and book right away!
- Once you book a ride you cannot book the same ride again that day.
- You can book starting at 7 a.m. whether or not you stay at a Disney Resort (This is different for the individual lightning lane).
Individual Lightning Lane
You can book the Individual Lightning Lane rides (separate from Genie+) beginning at 7 a.m. IF YOU STAY AT A DISNEY WORLD RESORT. If you do NOT stay in the park you have to wait until the park opens. Prices vary for each ride depending on availability and popularity. They CAN sell out! I do recommend booking as soon as possible! You MUST have a valid theme park admission and reservation. Click HERE for my lightning lane information.
As of August 2022: Here are the latest Individual Lightning Lane Rides at each park. All other rides and experiences are part of Genie+.
- Magic Kingdom: Seven Dwars Mine Train
- Hollywood Studios: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
- Animal Kingdom: Avatar: Flight of Passage
- Epcot: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
It Genie+ Worth it with the DAS Pass?
Here is the big question and my answer to that is yes and no. You need to be selective. If you are a large family like mine with young children who make waiting in line a torture session then YES in my opinion ANYTHING that helps us not have to wait in ANY lines is so worth it. I went during February Vacation Week and it was of course a very busy time. I purchased Genie+ for Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. I purchased Individual Lightning Lane Rides at Animal Kingdom and Epcot. I also had the DAS pass. This was perfect! We NEVER waiting in any lines and we rode MOST rides. I of course had to spend all day and night planning this out and booking rides.
The rides have changed a bit since we went and more have opened at Epcot. The next time we go I will purchase Genie+ for ALL days and use my DAS pass for the lightning lane rides. Yes it is more money, but in my opinion you are already paying so much for this experience, why not add $15 a day to make your life so much easier. Let’s face it, no one wants to wait in long lines and Disney is NEVER NOT busy!
What are the MOST Popular Genie + Rides at Each Park?
As a special gift to you I will list the most popular rides at each park. This list DOES NOT include the individual lightning lane rides which are obviously the newest and MOST popular. This list can change, but I have over 20 years of experience. Book the following rides FIRST at each park.
Magic Kingdom: Peter Pan, Splash Mountain (if it’s open), Jungle Cruise, Space Mountain
Hollywood Studios: Slinky Dog Dash, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway
Animal Kingdom: Avatar: Nav’i River Journey and Kilimanjaro Safari
Epcot: Guardians of the Galaxy: Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Frozen Ever After, and Test Track
