Lesson Ideas

Step 1: Purchase or borrow the book The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg. Purchase it HERE. I display the book to my students and share the Simile Poster to explain to my students what a Simile is.

Step 2: Read Aloud The Polar Express and discuss the Similes from the story.

Step 3: After Reading have the students use the rough draft paper to write their own holiday Similes.

Step 4: Help the students edit their work and then write the Similes they created on the final copy paper.

Step 5: Have the students color their holiday scene in the snow globe. Glue the final copy of the Similes to the bottom of the snow globe. Finish with some glitter for snow!
